Our history

In the Middle Ages, rich peasants who had the opportunity to build stone houses and outbuildings on their land called them “masserie”. Over time these peasant estates were bought by the lords to spend their holidays in the countryside.

So over time,  the farms have been transformed into luxury places.

Masseria San Nicola was built by the Prince of Carbonelli around 1600. Later it was aPurchased by the Shirt family in 1800 as a summer home.

It was originally known by the name of Masseria delle Seti, later the name was changed to Masseria San Nicola as sign of devotion to the patron saint of Bari.

THE Gardens of Masseria San Nicola are in line with the typical nineteenth-century garden of the Apulian villas and palaces: it is surrounded by walls and equipped with narrow streets for strolling and above all rich in scents and colours: from bougainvillea to citrus fruits, from aromatic plants to roses.
